HISTORY
Recognizing a desire among retired military officers in the DC area, group of retired Army officers, and their wives, organized and incorporated the ARRF-P. as a public supported charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. After considering a full range of options, the Foundation asked the Marriott Corporation to develop the Foundation's first retirement community, The Fairfax. The Foundation entered into a Sponsorship Agreement with Marriott and Marriott agreed to design, finance, build, own, and operate The Fairfax. The Foundation remains an exempt organization under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. In 2003, Marriott exited the senior living industry and sold The Fairfax to CNL Retirement Properties, Inc., with long-term management leased to Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. (Sunrise) as the operator. Presently, the Fairfax is a home to over 500 residents. The Foundation strives to celebrate a lifetime of military camaraderie, through recognition and service to those who served our country.
